World of Warcraft.

How it works
Basically, the Mastery rating means nothing unless you have the appropriate Specialization which is a new concept introduced in Cataclysm. Specialization is basically a form of locking in your talent tree and doesn’t happen until level 80.
Mechanic in Mists of Pandaria
This section concerns content exclusive to Mists of Pandaria.
As of Patch 5.0.4, the points based system was removed. Now, each specialization has a specific ability that determines how the mastery bonus benefits the character.
Mechanic in Cataclysm
This section concerns content exclusive to Cataclysm.
So, you need to keep a close eye on the bonus you get in your Mastery talent and decide if the conversion of Mastery rating to the bonus is worth it to you. Wowhead has a nice list of Mastery talents.
Mastery
Mastery is a passive mechanic specific to each specialization from level 10 that can be increased with stats. Mastery effects are found in the character sheet, in addition to the Spellbook under each specialization tab. Each Mastery offers specific benefits which can vary but generally fall into one of three categories: increasing the effectiveness of specific abilities or types of damage dealt; becoming more effective when certain conditions are met; or providing bonus effects including DoTs, HoTs, free attacks, or free spellcasts. All mastery benefits are measured in percentages, whether in terms of a numerical improvement, the size of an effectiveness boost or bonus effect, or a proc chance.
Mastery also refers to the associated secondary stat rating, which increases the strength of the effect. Like other ratings, this can be increased by gear with mastery on it. Each mastery has a base percentage value; the mastery stat increases this percentage by a varying amount depending on spec and level. Therefore even characters with no mastery stat rating will benefit from their Mastery.
Masteries
Below is a list of all Masteries, and the classes and specs to which they belong. Listed under ‘Base effect’ are the base percentage benefits granted to players regardless of their mastery stat. ‘Rating per 1%’ is the mastery rating required at level 60 to gain an additional 1% effect for that mastery’s X value only (the displayed mastery percentage value in the paper doll frame). At lower levels, smaller amounts of mastery rating are required to gain the same benefit. Both base effects and ratios are often very specific and are sometimes difficult to determine precisely.

The mechanic hasn’t changed dramatically, but theoretically, the system is much simpler since the benefit from mastery is clearly stated in the single specific ability gain from choosing a specialization.
Mastery
The Mastery system is a new game mechanic added to the talent system in World of Warcraft: Cataclysm. It has undergone extensive revision since its announcement at Blizzcon 2009. With the dramatic revamp of the talent system in preparation for Mists of Pandaria, mastery now represents a general bonus from items that gets applied to specialization (chosen at level 10) as single «Mastery: » ability which determines how the bonus is converted to some benefit.
As of Cataclysm
This section concerns content exclusive to Cataclysm.
Some classes or talent specializations desire mastery rating much more than others, depending on how powerful the bonus is to their role, but the basic idea is that this passive skill is attractive to you because of the talent specialization you chose.
Notes
Warriors learn Stance Mastery at level 20 which allows them to carry up to 10 Rage through a change of Stance. Tactical Mastery adds an additional 5/10/15 for up to 25 Rage carried over between Stance changes. This is enough to immediately trigger high Rage abilities like Spell Reflection and Whirlwind
Since Patch 2.0.1, the former talent Stance Mastery (which allows the warrior to keep 10 rage between stances) has been made a trainable skill at level 20, and the Tactical Mastery talent has been moved to the first tier of the Protection tree. Also, the ranks were changed accordingly to three ranks of 5 extra rage each.
The ability to keep rage between stances is considered by some to be one of the bread-and-butter skills of a warrior. According to this school of thought the Tactical Mastery talent is essential, and they argue that the absence of it «gimps» the character noticeably.
Start in Battle Stance. Charge your enemy to start combat and gain rage. Switch to Defensive Stance. Disarm your enemy. Switch back to Battle Stance to fight while they ineffectively wave their fists at you. If your enemy manages to get out of melee range switch to Berserker Stance and Intercept them.
WoW Classic Season of Mastery Coming Soon
Greetings, adventurers! WoW Classic Season of Mastery is coming, giving all players a chance to start fresh and a level playing field. This time around, we’re planning #slightlymorechanges.
We will launch new WoW Classic realms for Season of Mastery. These realms will invite new and current Classic players to begin fresh at level 1 for a complete reset of WoW Classic’s content, starting again at the very beginning of the World of Warcraft saga.
What’s different in WoW Classic Season of Mastery?
As with the first release of WoW Classic, we’re planning six content release phases. In WoW Classic Season of Mastery, however, phase unlocks will happen faster. We’re planning for a 12-month cadence, with phases unlocking roughly every couple months. Here’s the current outline for the six phases:
Phase 1 (WoW Classic Season of Mastery Launch)
Raid Boss Updates
The original release of WoW Classic was made to re-create the difficulty and challenge of patch 1.12 from the original World of Warcraft release. While we strived to bring a faithful re-creation of that release, many raid encounters turned out to be easier than the first time around—players simply were more experienced and prepared, and patch updates greatly increased player power.
With that in mind, we’re planning a few changes to make those early raid bosses pack a bit more of a punch, and attempt to recapture the original challenge they presented. These changes currently include (but are not limited to):
Our intent with these changes is for this experience to feel somewhat more challenging than WoW Classic did in 2019.
Due to Season of Mastery’s faster content release cadence, we’re also planning several improvements and changes. These include:
Faster Leveling
We’re planning on increasing experience gains from what they were in the first iteration of WoW Classic. Our current plan is to set them close to what the 1-60 XP rates are in Burning Crusade Classic™ with a bigger focus on quest XP increases.
Quality of Life Updates
In addition, we’re planning on introducing certain improvements that weren’t in the original WoW Classic release, but that we think can help create a better experience, such as:
Realms tend to be more densely populated in WoW Classic compared to the original 2005 design. Increasing gathering node spawns should provide a more consistent economy this time around.
WoW Classic
World of Warcraft.
WoW Classic?
WoW Classic)
В первой версии WoW Classic мы стремились воссоздать испытания обновления 1.12 оригинальной версии World of Warcraft.
