A mate tells me that every match is hosted off the killer’s internet and lag switching is where the killer starts downloading crap so cause the survivors to get high ping. Is this the case or am I completely off?
If that is how it works, how do I know if the killer is lag switching?

Just now, the lobby of this match said 61ms, in game, we got 4 gens without the slightest lag, then suddenly, 2 people just disconnect and I start teleporting everywhere, yet the killer was able to land both hits on me and hook me.

Did the killer start lag switching?

Lag switching is when the host finds a way to downgrade their own speeds on purpose to cause issues for others. Usually it entails the use of a piece of equipment to limit the flow of traffic.

I noticed that this killer’s match was kinda laggy at times, and sometimes not. Was unsure what was going on until I got stuck in a trap. I was able to make one attempt to escape, then my controls stopped responding. Then they started responding again when the killer materialized about 5 feet from my position.

After getting hooked, I noticed someone else screwed up the generator skill check, and I was unable to try to get myself off the hook, then the server dropped.

I’ve seen video tutorials for this kinda thing on XBOX when I played Left 4 Dead on someone’s local server. PVP screams for dedicated servers, I’m afraid that might be the only way to fix this.

Yeah, you’re right. My 100 Mbps fibre connection decides to go out just today, just for that match, just when every teammate makes some kind of noise on the map. My imagination.

In all seriousness, I own up to any sloppy playing I do, and there is plenty. This wasn’t one of those cases. If anyone doubts me, lookup a «lag switch tutorial» and test it for yourself.

Actually I’m more pointing out that things like these claims tend to snowball and people start latching onto them as an excuse simply because, no matter if it’s actually true or not.

It is also actually the first thread I’ve seen from someone claiming someone was using some sort of lag-switch exploit.

And even though it means little simply because I could be lucky, but I’ll throw out that I’ve noticed basically zero problems when playing as a survivor with moments of lag that I’d deem ‘mysterious’.

Then you are either new to the forum or been sticking your head in the dirt. 😛 Its obvious as hell when lag switch is used.

EXAMPLE: No lag whatsoever! Killer spots you. Suddenly while running you are bouncing all over the place. Congratulations, you have spotted a lagswitch user.

I had one match while I was streaming tonight where a hillbilly was chasing me and I thought I lost him. He was inside a building, and I could here him checking a locker, 1 second later and he’s behind me and downing me. I need to go back and watch it, because it seemed really off.

That said, I noticed quite a few matches tonight were laggier than usual. So, maybe something happened with the patch. I know my connection is fine (1Gbps Fiber), but it could be people switching download regions as well.

Lag switching is so obvious it’s painful. it’s one of the main reasons I’m begging for a ping indicator.

Oh, I know. I’ve dealt with it many times. I’m just not going to make a judgment call on it quite yet. I didn’t really notice any major issues until after the patch installed, so I’m thinking it might have something to do with it.

Or, like I said, it could be people changing download regions. I noticed post-patch that it was taking longer to find matches. I think this is due to possible fixes to the matchmaking. But, a lot of players have been changing their download region to find other players since the game released, so they may have thought they needed to switch regions again because of the wait times.

If I keep seeing specific patterns happening, then I’ll swing one way or the other, but this early into a new patch I think we need to give some people the benefit of the doubt.

Well, I’m not the one unwilling to accept that there’s even a possibility it was simply a coincidence.

You said yourself it was «just for that match». Which seems like the killer’s connection could have genuinely just been having issues. But no, instead you jump straight to «Exploit!» and post a thread based entirely off what was (as you said yourself) a single incident.

The fact you said the server disconnected completely means you have zero idea of what actually happened afterward, so for all you actually know the killer’s connection could have just been lost completely and without any sort of exploit being to blame.

This is what I take issue with, the fact that you don’t really KNOW anything for sure so you’re just assuming based on thin ‘evidence’ and a single incident. You act like genuine connection issues can’t look anything like a lag switch exploit, and that is just plain foolish. Some people just have unreliable internet. The fact it also apparently disconnected you completely only leads me to lean more towards actual connection failure on the killer’s part more than it does lag switch exploit also.

If you’d come in claiming it happened over several games, or with the same killer, etc, then I’d be more inclined to agree there might be something up.

*When you activate it while running killers see you running but on your screen not when you disable it on the killer’s perspective you disappear from his screen. your real clone was behind him and your fake clone was running you can’t see it but the killers does try it and see how the results are

*You can do stuff like freezing the hook when activating The lag switch you can freeze the killer in place before hooking you and you’ll wiggle out just watch his movements

*You can Lag switch when doing a gen so the killer can’t grab you until you 99’d it

*You can heal your Teammate when they are down

And many more! you can discover it by yourself

(EVERY 2 MINUTES IT WILL TURN OFF so you don’t get Kicked out its the maximum)

Download and install AutoHotKey and Netbalancer and install it on (C:) (Program Files)
